Millennium Forum hosts Major Suicide Prevention Conference

By September 16, 2019 News

This week, the Millennium Forum welcomes the largest global conference ever hosted in the city.  The 30th World Congress of the International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP) will be held from Tuesday 17th to Saturday 21st September throughout the city, with the Millennium Forum hosting as the lead venue.

Paul Mason, General Manager of the Millennium Forum, is delighted to welcome such an important event:

The process for bidding and winning such a high profile event has taken over five years and was the culmination of hard work by Visit Derry and their Ambassadors programme.  As the lead venue, we are particularly excited as this will allow us to demonstrate to the business and conference industry that Derry and the Millennium Forum have the skills and facilities to host and manage such a large scale conference.

The economic impact of this congress cannot be underestimated in our city and beyond, with all hotel beds already sold out for the greater part of the week, from Derry, Donegal and around the whole NW Region.”

Up to 850 delegates are registered to attend the conference that will feature workshops, meetings, exhibitions and keynote speakers from global industry professionals. The theme for IASP 2019 is Breaking Down Walls and Building Bridges’, a theme that not only resonates with the landmarks in Derry/Londonderry, but also reflects the work being done in suicide prevention and building hope for those in crisis.
