Script Submission
Submission Guidelines for Playwriting
- Age Requirement: You need to be at least 16 years old to submit your work. There’s no upper age limit, and no prior experience in writing is necessary.
- Synopsis: Please include a brief, one-page synopsis of your play.
- Format: We kindly ask that you submit your script as a PDF or Word document, with a file size not exceeding 40MB.
- Script Submission: We would love to see the first 6 pages of your script. This should showcase your ability to capture the reader’s interest right from the start. Please note that the title page and any pages listing the set and characters won’t be counted towards these 6 pages.
- Character Limit: The play should feature a maximum of 5 characters, though fewer characters are perfectly acceptable. If you’re writing a monologue, please ensure it includes some action or movement to keep things dynamic.
- Length: Your play should be between 65 and 90 A4 pages in length.
- Typing Requirement: All submissions must be typed. Hand-written scripts, unfortunately, cannot be accepted. We suggest using Times New Roman or Arial in size 12 font.
- Standard Format: Please follow the standard stageplay format used globally. For reference, you can look at examples of Brian Foster’s plays, whether monologue or ensemble samples available
- Content: While we appreciate all genres, we’re unable to accept musicals at this time.
- Originality: The play should be your original work and should not have been produced before.
- Set Design: Keeping the set simple and commercially viable would be to your advantage. Avoid costly special effects—think more minimalist than grand spectacle.
- Intervals: Most professional plays include an interval, typically about halfway through the script. This is something you might want to consider when planning your play’s structure.
Please note, you do not need to have completed the entire play to submit. To begin with, all we require are the opening six pages. If your submission is shortlisted, you’ll have the opportunity to complete the rest of the play under the guidance of Brian Foster.
If you already have a fully written play, that’s perfectly fine too. However, for the initial submission, we will only review a one-page synopsis and the first six pages of your script.
These guidelines aim to help you prepare your submission in the best way possible. We’re excited to see your creative work and wish you the best of luck!
