THE FORUM UNPLUGS FOR CULTURE NIGHT 2023

As the city gets ready for a cultural explosion to celebrate 2023’s Culture Night later this month, the Millennium Forum is putting final preparations together for its offering as part of the annual feast of events taking place on Friday 22nd September.

This year the theatre will host the return of its hugely popular, Youth Open Mic Night.  Once again, the Forum’s Studio Theatre will be transformed to provide a fun-filled evening of music offering local young people the opportunity to showcase their singing talents in front of a live audience. And it’s already BOOKED OUT!

Proudly sponsored by Craft Training and funded by DCSDC Culture Night, this popular event kicks off at 7.30pm and runs until 9.30pm.  Aimed primarily at young people ages 14-20, this family friendly event is just one of the many projects organised by the Millennium Forum as part of its ongoing commitment to develop a thriving and all-inclusive youth arts programme.

Mags Anderson, Education Officer at the Millennium Forum, is delighted the Open Mic Night is so popular.  She says:

“I am so excited to welcome the return of our Youth Open Mic Night.  Our first event, which we ran as part of Culture Night last year, was a huge success and clearly demonstrated the need for a performance of its kind for our incredibly talented young people.  The popularity and success of these events is testament to our fabulous Youth Forum who have helped with the planning and organisation.  Their commitment is amazing and it’s this passion that helps drive the Forum to continuously nurture young talent with numerous youth projects throughout the year.”

She added:

“We are delighted to have Craft Training as our Open Mic sponsor this year and look forward to working together and offering more opportunities and experiences for the young people of the city and beyond.

The Millennium Forum theatre and studio space are all fully accessible via the main public entrance at Newmarket Street, with our specially adapted Changing Space facility accessible via the lifts.  We look forward to seeing you.”

Culture Night on 22nd September will see Derry and Strabane join with villages, towns and cities across the island of Ireland to host a celebration of arts with an abundance of vibrant and exciting events over one wonderful evening.

Musical Theatre Youth Open Mic Night Unplugged is on at the Millennium Forum’s Studio on Friday 22nd September from 7.30pm-9.30pm as part of the city’s Culture Night.
